Local actors portrayed a broadcast with an astronomer, a radio commentator and various radio reporters who detailed the invasion which included a description of carnage from the Martian’s deadly assault in Grovers Mill, New Jersey with a mysterious heat ray wielded with a scientific knowledge that surpassed that of Earthlings.

The novel was most memorably dramatized in a 1938 radio show that allegedly caused public panic among listeners who did not know the Martian invasion was fiction.
